Bensons for Beds wanted to test how Code Chemistry’s Countdown Timers stacked up against an alternative provider’s timers. Across 10 email campaigns, they ran 10 split tests, sending half of their audience an email featuring Code Chemistry’s timer and the other half received an email featuring a competitor’s timer.

Frequently Asked Email Timer Questions
Not all email countdown timers are created equally. Find out the answers to the most commonly asked timer questions here.
You can easily create a timer in a couple of minutes. We've really focused on making our platform as quick and easy to use as possible. You can pre-configure your settings (colours, fonts, canvas size etc.) and we'll automatically create the design for you. Of course you have complete control of the design too.
That's up to you! When you create your timer you can choose how long it will tick for in the configuration step. Chose to set it to tick for anywhere between 2 to 70 seconds.
There's a couple of options. You can choose to leave the timer showing as zero or you can upload a different image to display once it's expired. This is our recommended approach. You can display an 'after' image with a win-back message to connect with your later openers and create an alternative engagement opportunity. You can also chose to direct the after image to a different URL. This is good practice to keep the content relevant no matter when the email is opened.
Apple's Mail Privacy Protection (MPP) can affect the accuracy of timers embedded within emails. When MPP is activated, Apple may 'pre-fetch' images when the email arrives in the inbox. That means the timer image will display the time remaining when the image was fetched from our server. To negate this, we provide the option for users to upload an MPP specific image which will be displayed in MPP environments.
Absolutely. You can upload your own background image designs and use your own custom fonts for a perfectly branded timer experience. This is available for every plan.
We support countdown, count up and personalised timers that count up or down (sometimes referred to as dynamic).
Countdown timers count down to your set end time, count up timers count up from a specified date (e.g. it's been 5 days since you left these items in your basket). Personalised timers require a date/time to be merged via an ESP merge token. Use cases for this include:
- Countdown to date merged
- Date merged plus X number of hours
Yes. You can create one timer and then in the configuration step tick the multi-language option. We support over 30 languages. Simply add the language code to the end of the element or create your own custom language mappings in the account settings area.
Once you've worked through the timer setup you'll see the element code in the last step. It's an href and an image source. You simply need to copy and paste these directly into your html or email builder where you want the countdown timer image to display.
